Petron Station in Mambau Northbound Receives Gold Certification for Green Practices
Petron Mambau Northbound is the first service station from Petron to achieve Gold certification, setting a model for sustainable operations nationwide.

Kuala Lumpur – Petron Malaysia is raising the bar for sustainable service stations with its Petron Mambau Northbound service station earning the prestigious Gold certification from GreenRE, Malaysia’s leading green building certification body.

Petron Mambau Northbound is the first service station in the Company’s network to achieve this recognition, affirming Petron’s commitment to environmentally responsible and future-ready infrastructure. GreenRE awards certifications based on a stringent scoring system across six categories: energy efficiency, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, sustainable operation and management, other green features, and carbon emission reduction.

The Petron Mambau Northbound service station, which was built according to Petron’s latest station design, successfully met GreenRE’s Gold standard. Currently about 30 other Petron service stations have the same sustainable design, with plans to add another 15 by the end of 2025. This reflects Petron’s dedication to building service stations that are energy-efficient, environmentally responsible, and designed to enhance the experience of customers and communities.

The Petron Mambau Northbound service station integrates a range of innovative green features, including:

  • Energy Efficiency– Solar-ready design complemented by LED lighting to reduce energy consumption, ventilated corridors and carpark.
  • Water Efficiency– Rainwater Harvesting System and sanitary facilities that comply with Water Efficient Product Labelling Scheme standards.
  • Environmental Protection– Use of sustainable products and materials installed with enviromental management practices.

“This certification validates Petron’s commitment to integrating sustainability into every part of our business. The Petron Mambau Northbound service station is more than just a fuel stop. Beyond meeting technical standards, it serves as a model for future-ready service stations designed with the environment and our our customers and communities in mind. This is only the beginning as we remain committed to building more sustainable service stations that benefit our stakeholders and support the nation’s energy transition journey,” said Mohd Nizam Mansor, General Manager of Petron Malaysia.

The Gold certification further reinforces Petron’s dedication to reducing its environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices, supporting Malaysia’s broader sustainability and climate objectives.

“We are pleased to award GreenRE Gold certification to Petron Mambau Northbound, a facility that demonstrates how service stations can be designed to operate more sustainably. From improving energy efficiency to reducing water use and enhancing the overall user experience, this project shows how sustainability can be embedded in everyday infrastructure. Petron’s leadership sets an example for the wider retail fuel industry in delivering facilities that are both customer-friendly and environmentally responsible,” said Ir. Ashwin Thurairajah, Executive Director, GreenRE.

Looking ahead, Petron aims to expand the adoption of sustainable features across its nationwide network, with future service stations built based on the GreenRE Gold-certified design.
