Petron Reaffirms Commitment to Community Safety at 2025 Johor Go-To-Safety-Point Event
Strengthening partnership with Royal Malaysia Police for over a decade and running

JOHOR BAHRU – Petron Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to community safety at a recent Go-To-Safety-Point (GTSP) event at Petron Kampung Melayu in partnership with the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP). GTSP aims to enhance the visibility of collaboration with the police at Petron stations and strengthen ties with nearby police stations to ensure faster response times to emergency calls from Petron stations.

The event, which featured a live emergency drill simulating a snatch theft and a motorcycle accident, was officiated by Johor Deputy Chief Police Officer ‘Yang Dihormati’ Deputy Commissioner Police Tuan Abdul Latiff bin Mehat. The simulation demonstrated how GTSP stations provide a safe haven for victims of these common incidents. For Petron, Johor is among the states that continues to report the highest number of GTSP reported cases annually, underscoring the state’s reliance on the program.

Tuan Abdul Latiff acknowledges the importance of their partnership with Petron. “I commend Petron for being proactive in spearheading GTSP nationwide and am pleased that Johor was chosen to host the 2025 state event. This simulation is a valuable exercise to increase public understanding of GTSP and reassure the community that Petron stations are always ready to provide assistance during emergencies,” he said.

More than a showcase, the event served as real-time training for Petron personnel, reinforcing their ability to respond quickly and effectively during emergencies. It also highlighted the role of the ‘de-stress corner’, a dedicated space for essential items such as a recliner, blanket, first aid kit, and emergency contacts, designed to support individuals in distress until further help arrives.

“Through GTSP, we not only enhance the safety, security, and well-being of the community, but also strengthen Petron’s reputation as a trusted place where anyone can find early assistance in an emergency. We have gone a step further towards making travels safer by the installation of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) units at selected Petron highway sites to assist with medical type emergencies as part of the GTSP initiative, which will be extended to more Petron highway sites by the end of this year,” said Shaliza Mohd Sidek, Petron Head of Retail Business.

Petron Malaysia was the first oil company to pioneer the GTSP program in 2013, marking more than a decade of partnership with RMP under the government’s “United Against Crime” campaign. Since then, almost all Petron service stations in the country are equipped with the GTSP ‘de-stress corner’ and marked with the GTSP decal for easy identification. Personnel receive regular refresher training with RMP to ensure they are prepared to support communities in times of need. The program supports Petron’s social sustainability aspiration on community engagement in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
